上下段に重ねて使われていた１組の桐箪笥。それぞれに立たせることで、「彼ら」として佇んでいるように感じた。同じようでどこか違う凸凹な二人組に見立てた古道具に、日本の古典物語「東海道中膝栗毛」の弥次郎兵衛と喜多八に見立てた。 古今東西の様々な物語において、二人組が物語をより豊かなものにする重要なエッセンスになることが多々ある。2人の主人公（ダブルキャスト）であったり、主役とその相棒、または名脇役として太刀振る舞うユーモラスなコンビ（例えばスターウォーズのC3-POとR２-D２）など。本作に出会った人々の物語がより豊かなものになればと想像する。
A pair of paulownia chests used to be stacked on the upper and lower levels as one chest. By standing each, they seemed to stand as a ‘they’. The ancient tools were made to look like the same but somehow different uneven duo, Yajirobei and Kitahachi from the classic Japanese tale Tokaido Chu Hizakurige. In many stories, ancient and modern, the duo is often the key essence that enriches the story: two protagonists (double cast), the main character and his sidekick, or a humorous duo playing supporting roles (e.g. C3-PO and R2-D2 in Star Wars). Hope to imagine that the Yaji Kita will make your life richer.
